Subject: Re: Do you know any lovely little hotels or guesthouses in Greece?

Skiathos September 2004 Posted by Hello

I received an email from Mike, I have hiked with him here in Greece.

The reason I'm writing is that I'm compiling a guidebook to 'Special Places to Stay' in Greece and I wondered if you had any suggestions. They must be small hotels, guesthouses or villas (<30 rooms), owner-run (i.e. not part of a chain), friendly, and very special in terms of decor and/or location I've scoured lots of guidebooks and websites, but still short on places in the Dodecanese islands, Samos, Mytilene, Lefkada and northern mainland. But suggestions anywhere are welcome.

I lived in Greece for about 2 years and travel most of the country, I stay at a very nice place on Skopolos, above the main town. It was only a short 5 minute walk to the harbor and the car rental shops. I picked up a car there for about $20 a day and drove all over the island. Very nice place with many good beaches. Also I stayed in a nice place on Crete, southern coast, in a town near Plakias. Lots of Germans, but nice beach and close to many sites.
